I'm Just Wild About Harry

Title

I'm Just Wild About Harry

Description

I came across this source in researching Eubie Blake, who wrote the first all-black musical to appear on Broadway. He was enormously commercially successful. This is one of the most famous songs from the musical, Shuffle Along. This song speaks volumes about the power of jazz to blur racial lines, because it demonstrates the social mobility afforded an African American - Eubie Blake - who composed a musical. As Ossian Sweet's plight in "Arc of Justice" demonstrates, this kind of success was not typical.

I am here to state
I'm here to relate
To explain
and make it plain that:
I`m just wild about Harry
and Harry's wild about me;

The heavenly blisses of his
kisses fill me with extasy.
He's sweet just like sugar candy
and just like honey from a bee;
oh, I`m just wild about Harry
and he's just wild about,
he can't do without,
he's just wild about me
Oh I`m just wild about Mandy,
and Mandy's wild about me
Oh, I`m just wild about Harry
and Harry's wild about me.

The heavenly blisses of his kisses
fill me with extasy.
He's sweet just like sugar candy,
and just like honey from a bee;
Oh, I`m just wild about Harry
and he's just wild about me,
